I purchased this as a replacement for my Hoover SteamVac V-2 (F7451-900) after its motor burned out after 4 years of frequent and heavy use. I clean my carpets (1600 SF) every 6 weeks because I have cats and an allergic husband.

The item arrived from Amazon in record time without expedited shipping. Out of the box, this assembles easily. It cleans very well. I have nothing but positive remarks about these.

However… The cleaning width of this machine is considerably more narrow than my old machine….less than 11″. This means you’re going to have to push and pull it a lot more than a wider based machine.

…The tanks — both cleaning and return — hold less than 3 quarts. This means you will have to empty the return tank and refill the cleaner tank very often. I cannot get 1/3 way through a single room without having to refill.

…This machine is VERY LOUD. While the motor is identical to the one on my old machine, this one has less machine around it, less water around it, and less insulation around it, and so it reverberates all the more. My ears were ringing for 2 days after using it in one room.

…This machine does not come with the extras that my previous machine came with. There is no cleaning tool with which to clean out the path of the returned dirty water. There is no hard floor attachment included. Both are available through the Hoover website but are expensive.

I am seriously considering taking this machine to my local Hoover repair shop and asking them to put its motor into my old machine. If I had it to do over, I would not purchase this machine.
